Student Representation for Leadership and Welfare

The Student Council functions as a representative body of students for promoting student welfare, leadership development, academic enrichment, cultural growth, sports participation, social responsibility, and effective communication between students and the college administration.

PREAMBLE

Representative Body of Students

The Student Council shall operate in accordance with the Maharashtra Public Universities Act, 2016, University of Mumbai Statutes, and all applicable Government of Maharashtra regulations. It supports academic enrichment, cultural and sports participation, social responsibility, inclusiveness, and communication between students and the administration.

OBJECTIVES

Student Council Objectives

The Student Council promotes welfare, leadership, representation, inclusiveness, discipline, diversity, student support, and institutional quality enhancement.

Student Welfare

Promote student welfare and well-being across the institution.

Leadership

Encourage leadership, responsibility, and democratic participation.

Activity Coordination

Coordinate academic, cultural, sports, NSS, NCC, and social activities.

Representation

Provide a platform for student representation and communication.

Discipline

Foster discipline, inclusiveness, and ethical conduct.

Equality

Promote gender equality, diversity, and social harmony.

Student Concerns

Assist in addressing student concerns through appropriate institutional mechanisms.

Quality Enhancement

Support quality enhancement initiatives of the institution.

The Student Council shall function on transparency, accountability, inclusiveness, equal opportunity, diversity, participation, and institutional integrity.

Inclusive participation of students from diverse backgrounds.

Active student involvement in institutional life and activities.

OFFICE BEARERS

Student Council Structure

The Student Council shall include representatives and secretaries for academic, cultural, sports, NSS, and student coordination responsibilities.

Class Representative

Represents class-level student communication and concerns.

Cluster Lead

Coordinates student groups and supports communication between students and faculty.

Cultural Secretary

Supports cultural programmes, creative activities, and student engagement initiatives.

Sports Secretary

Encourages sports participation and supports sports-related coordination.

NSS Coordinator

Coordinates NSS and community engagement activities through student participation.

Student Leadership Network

The office bearers work together to strengthen student welfare, participation, discipline, and institutional communication.

ELIGIBILITY

Eligibility Criteria

  • Enrolled as a regular student of the institution.
  • Maintains satisfactory academic performance.
  • Has no record of serious disciplinary misconduct.
  • Complies with attendance requirements prescribed by the institution.
  • Meets any eligibility criteria prescribed by the University of Mumbai.
TENURE

One Academic Year

The tenure of the Student Council shall ordinarily be one academic year. Members shall cease to hold office upon completion of tenure, withdrawal from the institution, or disqualification.

FUNCTIONS & DUTIES

Student Council Duties

The Student Council represents student interests, supports academic and co-curricular activities, promotes safety, wellness, and strengthens communication.

Representation

Represent student interests and facilitate communication with administration.

Academic Excellence

Promote academic excellence and student development programmes.

Cultural Programmes

Organise cultural programmes and support student participation.

Sports Participation

Encourage sports participation and student involvement in activities.

Extension Activities

Coordinate Community Work Committee and extension activities.

Environment

Promote environmental awareness and responsible campus practices.

Student Safety

Support anti-ragging initiatives and student safety programmes.

Wellness

Promote mental health and wellness awareness among students.

Meetings

  • The Council shall meet at least three to four times every semester.
  • Emergency meetings may be called with approval of the Faculty Coordinator.
  • Decisions shall ordinarily be taken by majority vote.

Code of Conduct

  • Maintain discipline and respect institutional policies.
  • Avoid discrimination and maintain confidentiality where required.
  • Use institutional resources responsibly.
  • Act in the best interests of students and the institution.

Anti-Ragging & Student Safety

  • Support anti-ragging policies.
  • Promote gender sensitisation initiatives.
  • Support prevention of sexual harassment.
  • Promote student safety and mental health awareness.

Grievance Support

The Student Council may assist students in accessing institutional support systems.

  • Collect student feedback.
  • Refer grievances to appropriate authorities.
  • Assist students in accessing support mechanisms.

Disciplinary Action

A member may be removed for misconduct, violation of institutional rules, misuse of position, political activity under the Council banner, or financial irregularities. Removal shall follow due process and principles of natural justice.

Council Documentation

The Student Council shall maintain systematic records of meetings, attendance, activities, and annual performance.

INTERPRETATION

Statutory and Institutional Guidance

Any matter not covered in this policy shall be governed by applicable statutory, university, government, and institutional provisions.
