Sports as a Part of Holistic Education

The Committee contributes to the College’s vision of nurturing well-rounded individuals by providing opportunities for participation in sports, games, fitness programmes, and recreational activities. It supports institutional quality enhancement by fostering student engagement, talent development, inclusivity, and excellence in sports at intra-collegiate, inter-collegiate, university, state, and national levels.

FUNCTIONS

Functions of the Committee

The Committee plans, organises, coordinates, documents, and promotes sports, recreational, wellness, and competitive activities throughout the academic year.

Annual Sports Plan

Prepare and implement the Annual Sports and Gymkhana Activity Plan.

College Competitions

Organise intra-collegiate sports competitions and recreational activities.

External Participation

Coordinate participation in inter-collegiate, University, State, and National level sports events.

Sports Day

Conduct Annual Sports Day and sports festivals.

Fitness & Wellness

Organise fitness, yoga, wellness, and physical development programmes.

Talent Identification

Identify and encourage talented sportspersons.

Facilities

Ensure proper maintenance and utilisation of sports facilities and equipment.

Coaching

Facilitate coaching, training, and skill development programmes.

Documentation

Maintain records of participation, achievements, awards, and recognitions.

COMMITTEE-SPECIFIC GUIDELINES

Operational Guidelines

These guidelines ensure merit-based selection, responsible facility use, discipline, safety, and equal opportunities in sports participation.

Open Participation

Participation in sports activities shall be open to all eligible students without discrimination.

Merit-Based Selection

Selection shall be based on merit, performance, fitness, and eligibility criteria.

Discipline

Students representing the College shall maintain discipline and uphold institutional reputation.

Facility Use

Sports facilities and equipment shall be used responsibly and only for approved activities.

Safety

Students shall follow safety guidelines and instructions issued by coaches and coordinators.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Shared Responsibilities

Sports activities are implemented through coordinated support from the Principal, Sports Coordinator, faculty members, students, coaches, trainers, and external experts.

Principal

  • Provide administrative support and strategic direction.
  • Approve annual plans, budgets, and major sports initiatives.
  • Facilitate infrastructure development and resource allocation.

Sports Coordinator / Committee Convener

  • Plan, organise, and supervise sports activities.
  • Coordinate with University authorities and sports organisations.
  • Maintain records and documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional and University regulations.

Faculty Members

  • Encourage student participation in sports activities.
  • Assist in organising events and competitions.
  • Support mentoring and supervision of student participants.

Students

  • Participate actively and responsibly.
  • Maintain discipline, sportsmanship, and ethical conduct.
  • Ensure proper use and care of sports facilities and equipment.

GRIEVANCE & REVIEW

Fair Resolution and Annual Policy Review

Any grievance related to sports activities, team selection, facilities, equipment, participation, or conduct of events shall be reported to the Sports Coordinator. Unresolved matters shall be referred to the Principal and addressed through the institutional Grievance Redressal Mechanism. This policy shall be reviewed annually by the Sports and Gymkhana Committee in consultation with IQAC and the Principal to ensure effectiveness, relevance, and compliance with University of Mumbai, UGC, NAAC, and other statutory guidelines.
